Sky Adventure Tour De Nature 2011!

Hey everyone!! The cycling trip was a splendid and awesome one! This time we made a new record by breaking our first 122.9km cross-state journey. Somewhat tiresome yet our team spirit is bonded together. And together we strive to achieve our goals!

** 66.7km short of target**

August 25, 2011 – We gathered in Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus at 7.30pm. While at there, we placed our bikes, baggage and important items in the three vehicles before departing for Bentong. Once arrived, we had a late supper in a mamak stall to fill our growling-empty-stomachs. Although it was pretty late, we enjoyed our late meal as we talked and laughed through the night. After our meals, we check-in at our lodging in Hotel Kristal to put a night out.

August 26, 2011 – Day 1:

Today is the day where our fellow participating members had to wake up at 5.30am to get prepared for the cycling pledge. We too had to wake up early despite having such a short period of sleep. Oh! How I crave for my beauty sleep.  Anyways, there’s no time to slack and whine about it! Soon, we had the bicycles unloaded at nearby petrol station.

And there, we had Jules Thia a.k.a Skinny to give us some guidance on safety first and handling our bicycles just in case we skidded off tracks! Skinny also brief us on the formation before we rode off!

We cycled in one straight line although it would be boring for a one linear destination. Instead we need to keep ourselves alert on the road at all times; to avoid pot-holes, landslides and splinters. Soon, we endured the steepness of the slopes and ride downhill with extraordinary excitement and thrills. It can be dangerous if we are not careful enough. What’s more exciting and relief to go downhill after struggling an uphill ride? Nothing!

We reached the first school, SKJ (C) Mentakab 1 around 10.50am. We spend almost one hour there to entertain the kids with WWF information as well as games for them. Those kids were split into 5 groups, teaching them actions of certain animals and also to come out with a slogan for the respective animals. The 3 winning teams with the best slogans and actions would be given a hamper each. Same goes for the next school, just around 12km which we didn’t really cycle there. At 12.30pm, we arrived at SKJ (C) Yeow Cheng Luan. We had chicken rice for our lunch in that school specially provided by the headmistress and teachers of the school. How nice and kind of them.

And guess what! The kids are so cute that they made us felt like a 'superstar'! Especially the emcee of the day, Charcoal. The kids will be wondering whose signature was this when they grow up later on.

At about 3pm, we departed for Temerloh and after 9km we arrived at Hotel Isis. At 5.30pm we unload our baggage and spent a night there. Not forgetting having tom yam for our dinner.

August 27, 2011 – Day 2:

The next morning, we embarked on our journey a little late. At 3pm, we stopped at Maran to have a quick snack by the side of the road. There weren’t any stall or decent place for us to rest that we are one with the nature, just for awhile.
No doubt that was a very light snack. Our tummies were growling all the way until we spotted a Chinese restaurant. FOOD!! I bet the waiters are trembling by looking at our aura. We were hungry like a pack of wolves. After lunch, we carried on cycling to Teluk Cempedak.

Unfortunately the weather started to change. It started to drizzles and then rain, forcing us to find shelter and wait for it to stop. When it finally rains off at 7.30pm, the sky gets darker. And some of us felt that it is rather not safe to continue in the dark especially when most of the roads ahead are downhills. So, we stopped at some local shop “Pantai Selamat supermarket” to buy some barbeque food items. Other members helped to set the tent and some help to arrange the BBQ equipments. Not forgetting Wolf and Notty whom joined us as well. No doubt that this particular night, everyone of us had a great fellowship in all activities that we do.

August 28, 2011 – Day 3:

It’s the final day of our trip. We started packing as early as 8 o’clock in the morning. Before we leave, we gave some goodies to the general public people. Those were some goodies with courtesy and compliment from our sponsors and of course our campus too. Then, we head for our breakfast, guess what? McDonald’s! Yummy! I guess it was pretty tedious for the waitress to serve each one of us there. After that, it’s the end of SATN 2011 as we depart from Teluk Cempedak back to our campus.
