SAC Rock Climbing

Known to be adventurous young people, we are always on the lookout for more challenging adventure, and team building activities. Not only as this is a challenge to ourselves, but also to be able to gather together and do something fun; as a team.

Thats us, Sky Adventure Club. :)

This rock climbing challenge was handled and coordinated by Aladdin, and he has done a very good job in it. I am sure everyone agreed on that.

Our journey started very early in the morning, of a very nice day on the 1st July 2012. All the members gathered at the Taylor's University Lakeside at around 8am in the morning before we had breakfast together in Star Teh Tarik aka Mamak. We had two members form the SAC SJ with us on that day, Tapai and Beetle. Introductions and exchanging names came up and next, we're on our way to Batu Caves with high spirits.

All of us adventurers. 

The journey down to Batu Caves was overall smooth, with one tiny bit of a side-tracked route. Traffic were also very minimal, signaling a good day ahead. We had car convoys of 5 cars, all trailing each other with close proximity.

Our meeting point  with the instructors was at Giant, Batu Caves which then after meeting with them, proceeded to the Damai Wall, Batu Caves. 

Some info about Damai Wall : 

Damai Wall situated north of Batu Caves, 20mins drive from city center of Kuala Lumpur. Damai Wall is the most popular climbing spot in the region.The routes are mostly vertical and therefore the haven for new climbers aspiring to their first experience of climbing natural rock. Multi-pitch climbing is popular here as routes are bolted up to the top in 4pitches, graded from intermediate to expert for selection.This wall will be packed during weekend at times with some climbing,abseiling group events, guides and trainings. ( Pro Gears, 2010 ) 

Upon reaching the Damai Wall, all of us were surprised to see just how tall the "wall" is, as it is very high and looked very steep, and challenging. However we were laughed at by the instructors saying that we will not be doing a full-scale climb as it is only for the professionals and much training and practices are needed for it.

Turns out the wall that we are going to climb were meant for beginners. Yeah, it was very funny and shocking as we thought that wall alone looked very "challenging". After a short introductions by the instructors, we were given out forms to fill in. Indemnity form; just in case "something" that is we would unlikely likely to happen, to happen.

 Motto of the day : "No Fill in Form, No Climb" 

While preparing for the climb, we had a short and brief warm-ups conducted by the instructors. However, as usual, we had much photo sessions to capture this moments............. and just because we can!

We just could not help doing sexy poses and doing all sorts of funny poses. It was fun. Times spent together is a time spent wisely.

The climb was started by Shuttle, on track 4. And while he climbed slowly but surely, the rest of us cheered him to go on and do his best. Motivations and cheering can move mountains when done full-heartedly and earnestly.

In my own opinion, this activity really test our strength and determination. Climbing the walls were not an easy feat and this is where we were able to see our own strength. Seriously I myself felt so tired while climbing the walls. Its like pulling a cow up, myself obviously. LOL. However, like I said, cheering and motivations from fellow friends helps a lot. I pushed myself through, just like any other. But I still no finish climb. hehehe.. :3

After what seems hours of fun rock-climbing and picture sessions, it was time for us to go. And as a part of SAC traditions, after every activity, will be followed by a meal together.

We had our meal at McD, the easiest and fastest meal. We were a crazy large lot in McD, and people were watching us. Admiring us, mayhaps. Well, I wish that is the case. We were all young looking people, dressed in sports attire, and covered in sweats and little little bruises. So man huh? 

After lunch, it was only around 3pm and the team decided to make a final stop of the trip. BATU CAVES! 

We raced through the flight of stairs. Like birds that nests at the temples therein. Epic.

Today's activity and bonding session were amazing and memorable. We were able to test our own strength and push ourselves to the limit, with the help of fellow members; who cheered and urged us to perform better and to do our best of the best. Everyone came to realized that without one another, we would not move forward and would be facing much hardships and challenges. To further make this club more exciting and more progressive, we need to work together, hand in hand and proceed together and to do our very best.
